Prevelance of print disabled and blind persons in Nigeria

  • Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa with an estimated population in 2024 to be 233,441,996
  • According to the The national blindness and visual impairment survey 2008, the prevalence of blind and print disabled persons in Nigeria above age 40 to be 1.13m at 0.5%.
  • From 2008 to 2024 with a population growth of about 44%. We can estimate the current Prevalence of blind and print disabled adults above the age of 40 in 2024 to be 0.94%
  • The Prevelance of blindness and print disability amongst children and young adults below the age of 40 to be 0.2%
  • The total Prevelance of blind and print disabled persons in Nigeria to be 1.2%
  • All 36 states in Nigeria have at least 1 school for the blind.for both primary and secondary education.
  • Jabi School of the Blind in Abuja (north central region) have 168 students enrolled in 2024. Pachella School of the Blind in Lagos (south west region)have 150 pupil enrolled in 2024. Borno special school for the blind (north east region) has a total of 68 pupils in 2024. School of the blind in Benin (south south) have 30 registered students. Ebonyi state school of blind (south east) have 50 registered students. Kano state special school for blind (moth west) have 41 registered students.
